ChatGPT Plus costs $20 per month and suits most people who use ChatGPT regularly for writing, study and work. ChatGPT Pro starts at $100 per month and is aimed at heavy users who run into Plus limits or want the extra Pro features, such as the Pro reasoning option and longer Codex and ChatGPT Work sessions.
If you only use ChatGPT now and then, the Free plan or the lower-priced Go plan may already be enough. The sections below explain what each plan includes, using what OpenAI says on its own pages.
| Plan | Price | Who it suits | What OpenAI highlights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Free | Occasional users | Unlimited text chats (subject to abuse guardrails), limited uploads, image creation and voice |
| Go | $8 USD per month in the US, as listed in OpenAI's pricing docs | People who want more than Free | More messages with tools, more uploads, longer memory; the plan may include ads |
| Plus | $20 per month | Regular everyday users | Advanced reasoning models, expanded messages and uploads, deep research, projects, scheduled tasks, custom GPTs |
| Pro | From $100 per month ($100, $200 or $500 tiers) | Heavy, daily, professional users | Everything in Plus, higher usage allowances, Pro reasoning option, longer Codex and ChatGPT Work sessions |
Prices are US prices. OpenAI's Go help page says it may adjust pricing over time, and OpenAI has said Go pricing is localized in some markets, so check the official ChatGPT pricing page before you subscribe.
Plus is the standard paid plan for individuals. OpenAI's help centre lists the price as $20 per month, billed monthly. It also says Plus does not support annual billing or paying for several months in advance.
According to OpenAI's plan page, Plus is "everything in Go" and adds:
The Plus card carries the note "Limits apply". In other words, Plus gives you more room than Free or Go, but it is not unlimited. OpenAI's help centre also says API usage is billed separately and is not part of Plus.
Who Plus suits: students, writers, freelancers and office workers who use ChatGPT most days and want better reasoning, more uploads and tools like projects and custom GPTs, without paying for a top-tier plan.
OpenAI describes Pro as "everything in Plus" with a choice of usage tiers. The extra items listed on the plan page are:
OpenAI's models help page also states that, in chat, Plus does not include the Pro reasoning effort, while Pro plans do. It adds that Pro plans with higher usage allowances include higher limits for Pro models.
OpenAI's Pro help article lists three monthly tiers:
The same article says Pro is billed monthly only, with no annual billing. It also notes that ChatGPT Pro includes Pro models, Codex, deep research, image creation, memory and file uploads, and that credits can support eligible usage in tools such as Codex and ChatGPT Work.
The Pro help article describes different usage allowances on the $200 tier for some existing and new subscribers. If you are weighing up the $200 tier, read the current wording on that help article first.
Who Pro suits: people who use ChatGPT for many hours a day, run long coding or research tasks, or hit Plus limits often enough that it slows their work. For most casual users the extra cost is hard to justify.
Everything else, such as projects, scheduled tasks, custom GPTs and deep research, is available on both plans, with Pro offering the larger allowance.
The Free plan includes unlimited text chats, subject to abuse guardrails, plus limited use of file uploads, image creation, voice chats and deep research. Web search is also available on Free, according to OpenAI's search help page.
The Go plan sits between Free and Plus. OpenAI says it includes higher limits for image generation, file uploads and data analysis, and a larger context window for longer memory. The plan page says Go may include ads, and the help page says OpenAI may start testing ads in Go in the future. Go does not include legacy models or API usage.
Because both plans bill monthly, you can start on Plus and move up if you find yourself running out of usage. You can read more about the tool on our ChatGPT page.
We checked the plan names, prices and features in this guide against OpenAI's official ChatGPT pricing page and help centre on 20 October 2026. Where OpenAI's pages did not show a figure, or where two pages described a feature differently, we left the detail out rather than guess. Plans and prices change, so check the official site before you buy.
OpenAI's help centre lists ChatGPT Plus at $20 per month, billed monthly.
Pro starts at $100 per month. OpenAI's Pro help article lists three tiers: $100, $200 and $500 per month.
It depends on how much you use it. Pro gives higher usage allowances and extras such as the Pro reasoning option and longer Codex and ChatGPT Work sessions. If you rarely reach Plus limits, you are unlikely to notice much difference.
OpenAI's help centre says Plus does not support annual billing or paying several months in advance, and that Pro is billed monthly only.
Yes. The Free plan costs nothing and the Go plan is a lower-priced step up. Go is $8 USD per month in the US, as listed in OpenAI's pricing docs, and the Go plan may include ads.
OpenAI says Free users have unlimited everyday text chats, subject to abuse-prevention safeguards. Separate limits apply to file uploads, image generation, voice and data analysis.
