Strokes is a desktop writing app with a built-in AI assistant, made for people who care about words, including writers, content creators and knowledge workers.
The assistant sits inside the editor, so you can ask about any passage without switching tabs or copying text between apps. You can also select text and request changes in context with a Command K shortcut.
Assistant options include deep mode, attaching files, polish and finalise, browsing the web, creating images and agent reviews.
Your documents are stored on your own computer rather than on a remote server, and the editor keeps working with no internet connection. An AI offline mode is listed as coming soon.
Key features include paged and pageless views, projects, content blocks such as day plans, and fast handling of long documents. You can import Word, Markdown, plain text and Notion exports, and export to PDF, Word, EPUB, Markdown, plain text and HTML. Docs can be shared through a public read-only link or by email.
It is available for macOS and Windows. Google Drive and Dropbox import are listed as coming soon.
Pricing: a Free plan includes the editor and a limited AI allowance. Plus is $9 a month and adds encrypted cloud backups, external connections, image generation and five times the AI usage. Pro is $29 a month and adds deep mode, multi-agent mode and fifteen times the AI usage.
It is suited to writers who want an AI helper in a distraction-free editor while keeping their files on their own machine.
