AI Music Detection API by Modulate (also called Velma AI Music Detect) is an AI-powered API that identifies AI-generated vocals and instrumental music in audio files and live streams.
It is built for music platforms, distributors and rights holders who need to catch AI-generated tracks before they reach monetisation, distribution or licensing.
The API runs two independent models, one for vocals and one for instrumentals, and scores every 4-second window of a track separately. This gives window-level visibility into hybrid tracks where AI was only used for part of a composition, such as AI vocals over human-made music.
Each clip returns a primary verdict of ai-vocal-music, ai-instrumental or not-ai-music, along with vocal and instrumental AI percentages, confidence scores and a full per-window breakdown that can be fed into an existing pipeline.
Key features include tunable detection thresholds without retraining, batch processing over a REST API, real-time streaming over WebSocket, and support for AAC, FLAC, M4A, MP3, MP4, OGG, OPUS and WAV files up to 100 MB.
Common uses include flagging royalty-farming uploads at ingestion, enforcing streaming platform AI disclosure policies, checking content before licensing deals, and helping platforms meet AI disclosure rules such as the EU AI Act.
