ilse is an agentic WYSIWYG tool that puts a toolbar on top of the React app you already have running, so you can point at the interface and have your own AI coding agent change the code.
You click an element or select text and write what should change, drag to reorder, resize, edit text or tweak spacing and colours using your project's own design tokens. Simple panel tweaks that map to a class are applied instantly with few or zero tokens.
Anything more involved is passed to the agent you already use, such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor CLI, Gemini CLI or any agent that speaks MCP. ilse sends the element's file and line, the relevant snippet, the component that wrote it, your design tokens and your notes.
It runs locally as a CLI and an MCP server, started with a single npx command in your project folder. There is no extension, app or account, it stores no keys and sends your code to no server, and the toolbar only exists on the dev server.
Key features include Design Mode for pointing, moving, resizing, drawing and editing, a component library, and Test Mode in Pro, which walks real user journeys in your app and reports where it gets stuck. A Review Mode for reviewer notes is listed as coming soon.
It works with any React project with a dev server, including Next.js, Vite, Remix, Astro and CRA, and with Tailwind, shadcn/ui, Radix and MUI.
Pricing: the core tool is free under the PolyForm Shield licence. Pro is a one-time purchase with 12 months of updates, currently offered as a founder pre-sale at 49 USD.
It is suited to designers, design engineers and front-end developers refining an existing interface rather than generating an app from scratch.
