OpenCode is an open source AI coding agent that helps you write and run code in your terminal, IDE or desktop.
It comes with a set of free models that you can use without creating an account, or you can connect any model from any provider, including Claude, GPT, Gemini and more. Through Models.dev it supports more than 75 LLM providers, including local models.
You can also log in with existing subscriptions, such as a ChatGPT Plus or Pro account through OpenAI, or a GitHub Copilot account through GitHub.
Key features include multi-session support for running several agents in parallel on the same project, and availability as a terminal interface, desktop app and IDE extension. It installs with curl, npm, bun, brew and other package managers.
Zen gives access to a handpicked set of models that the OpenCode team has tested and benchmarked for coding agents, and Go offers low-cost access to coding models with set usage limits.
The project reports more than 220,000 GitHub stars, around 950 contributors and over 16 million developers using it each month. Data is only stored when you use the free models.
Pricing: OpenCode itself is free to use and includes free models. Optional Go plans cost 10 USD per month, Go Plus 40 USD per month and Go Teams 20 USD per member per month, and other providers may charge their own fees. Enterprise options are also offered.
It is suited to software developers and engineering teams who want an open source coding agent that works with the model and editor of their choice.
