ScholarThread is a research thinking environment that keeps your reference library, reading and notes together in one place, with AI chat that answers questions from your own papers.
It is built to fix the problem of references living in one tool, PDFs in another and notes in a third. You import your library, read documents in the app and take notes that stay anchored to their source and linked to each other.
Key features include one-click Zotero sync, OpenAlex import and local uploads, a PDF and EPUB reader with highlights, Markdown notes with typed links between notes, papers and passages, full-text search, and a map view showing what a paper cites, what links to it and the claims that rest on it.
Ask your library provides grounded chat over your papers, where every answer cites the papers and notes it came from and opens the source in one click. Pro adds assisted note generation and an MCP server so you can bring your own AI.
It works with Zotero, OpenAlex, BibTeX, RIS, CSL, Obsidian and Git, and is available on the web, iPhone and iPad, with an Android app planned.
Pricing: an anonymous mode and a free account are available with no card required. Pro costs $19 per month or $192 per year and includes 10 GB of cloud storage and 500,000 AI credits a month. Academic Pro is $12 per month for verified university emails, and extra AI credits can be bought.
It is suited to academics, PhD students and other researchers who read and write from large collections of papers.
