Ask BONBON is an AI electrical code assistant for electricians, apprentices, contractors and inspectors that answers questions about the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).
You ask a question in plain English, such as how deep buried conduit should be or what wire size a 100 amp subpanel needs, and it returns an answer in seconds with the code article it is quoting cited.
It covers NEC 2017, 2020 and 2023 as well as CEC 2021 and 2024, and includes a guide to the 2026 NEC changes ranked by how much they matter in the field.
Key features include field calculators for conduit fill, box fill, voltage drop, wire size and derating, along with state amendments and inspection support.
A tutoring mode helps apprentices and electricians prepare for journeyman and master licensing exams.
It is available on the web, iOS and Android, and you can start using it without creating a login. A history view keeps track of previous questions.
Example questions on the home screen include whether MC cable can be used in a house, making it easy for newer apprentices to see the kind of everyday site questions it is built to handle.
Ask BONBON describes itself as a reference tool and notes that it does not replace the authority having jurisdiction.
Pricing: free to start with no login required, with paid upgrades available for more use.
It is suited to working electricians on site, apprentices studying for exams, electrical contractors and inspectors who need quick code references.
