Pinku is a private AI chat app that runs open-source language models entirely on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. You download a model once and then chat with it offline, even in airplane mode.
It runs models locally with Apple's MLX framework on the device GPU. Your messages are processed on your device and are never sent to a server, and there is no account to create.
Pinku offers a range of open models including Llama 3.2, Qwen3, Gemma 3, Gemma 3n, Gemma 4, SmolLM3 and LFM2.5, from about 0.4 GB to 4.7 GB. The default is Llama 3.2 1B, chosen because it starts answering fastest. Qwen3 and SmolLM3 are reasoning models that think step by step before answering.
The app only lists models your device has enough memory to run, and it checks available memory before loading a model so it does not crash.
Key features include chat history saved only on your device, copying, sharing or regenerating answers, editing a sent message to get a new reply, Markdown formatting for code, lists and tables, and Siri and Shortcuts support to start a chat by voice. Recent versions can read PDFs, text and Markdown files, and with Gemma 4 E2B it can look at your photos.
The app is available in 34 languages and offers accent colour and font options.
Pricing: Pinku is free to download and chatting with Llama 3.2 1B costs nothing. Pinku Pro is optional, as a yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase, and adds access to any model including the larger ones, custom instructions, on-device voice dictation, read aloud and extra themes.
It is suited to people who want a private, offline AI assistant for writing, questions, brainstorming and everyday help without sending chats to the cloud. It needs iOS 18.6 or later with Metal 3 support, or a Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 14 or later.
