College Essay Grader is an AI-powered feedback tool that scores and reviews college application essays so students can see how their writing is likely to come across to admission officers.
Students paste in their essay and receive a report in under a minute. The report includes an overall Essay Profile score out of 10, built from six separate scores for Writing, Detail, Voice, Reflection, Curiosity and Contribution.
Key features include line-by-line margin notes on specific sentences, flags for unclear or generic wording, and an action plan that lists the most important edits first. Students can grade several drafts and track how their score changes from one draft to the next.
The tool also compares an essay with datasets drawn from successful applications to selective colleges, showing how the essay lines up with the strengths seen in those applications. Paid plans add a feature called The Hard Truth, which gives a candid take written from an admissions reader's point of view.
It supports Common App personal statements, all eight UC Personal Insight Questions, Coalition essays, UCAS personal statements and supplemental essays for US colleges.
College Essay Grader does not write or rewrite essays, so the writing stays the student's own. It is not an AI detection tool and it does not predict admission outcomes.
Pricing: a free plan covers one essay graded twice (a draft and a revision) with the six-part score, margin notes and a top revision step. Pro costs $40 per month for up to 30 gradings a month, and Unlimited costs $60 per month for unlimited gradings. Paid plans can be cancelled at any time.
It is suited to high school students applying to US universities, as well as parents and school counsellors who support students through application season.
