Trigger.dev is an open source platform for building and deploying durable AI agents and workflows in TypeScript, with long-running tasks, retries, queues, AI observability and elastic scaling.
Developers write tasks in their own codebase and offload long-running async AI work to Trigger.dev infrastructure, so code never hits a timeout. Durable chat agents survive page refreshes, redeploys and crashes, and responses can be streamed to the frontend without writing API routes.
It supports common AI agent patterns, including prompt chaining, routing tasks to specialised models, parallel processing, multi-agent orchestration, evaluator loops and human-in-the-loop approval.
Key features include configurable and conditional retries, concurrency controls, scheduled tasks, atomic versioned deploys, realtime run status in your app, LLM response streaming, alerts by email, Slack or webhooks, advanced run filtering with bulk actions, and webhooks for AI agents.
Build extensions let teams customise the build and container image, run Python scripts with automatic package installation, add FFmpeg for video work, control browsers for automation, generate Prisma clients and install system packages.
Trigger.dev is Apache 2.0 licensed, so teams can view the source, contribute and self-host. Companies such as Cal.com use it to run millions of workflows a month.
Pricing: a free plan includes $5 of monthly compute credits and 20 concurrent runs. Hobby costs $10 per month and Pro costs $50 per month with more credits, concurrency, schedules and log retention, and you only pay when code is actually executing. A HIPAA BAA add-on is available.
It is suited to developers and engineering teams building AI agents, background jobs, media processing, browser automation and scheduled workflows.
