Flexnote is a local-first visual note-taking app with an infinite canvas, where notes live as cards connected by bidirectional links, and Flexnote AI adds semantic search and question answering across your knowledge base.
Cards can be placed freely, zoomed and dragged on the canvas, and the same board can be viewed as a mind map. Notes can also be organised through a tag-based database, a card library and todos.
Key features include PDF annotation that turns highlights into reference cards, video annotation with timestamp notes for local files, YouTube and Bilibili, multi-column note study, native Markdown editing with links created by typing @, and a web clipper.
Flexnote AI builds a smart index for semantic search and knowledge base Q&A. AI chat runs on your own API key, with usage billed by the model provider, and the company says notes are not used to train models.
Files are stored on your device by default and editing works offline. Optional sync is available through your own WebDAV server, Amazon S3, OneDrive or Baidu Netdisk, and canvases can be published as view-only interactive web pages with an optional password.
It runs on Windows 10 or later and macOS 11 or later, with an Android app available. The web version is currently view-only and an iOS app is in development.
Pricing: the Free plan includes 3 whiteboards, 100 cards and local storage. Pro costs USD 29 per quarter or USD 49 per year, and a Lifetime licence is USD 149 (limited-time offer). Pro adds unlimited whiteboards, Flexnote AI, cloud sync and 3,000 smart index points. Education pricing and extra point packs from USD 2.99 are also available, with a 7-day money-back guarantee.
It is suited to students, researchers, designers and self-directed learners who think visually and work with PDFs and videos.
